Metal Roofing

Metal roofing built for Atlantic Canadian weather

Wind off the harbour, freeze-and-thaw through the winter, and salt in the air are hard on a roof. Metal is one of the few systems designed to handle all three — here is how it works, what we install, and what the process looks like.

Why metal

What metal roofing does well

Every roofing material is a set of trade-offs. These are the areas where metal genuinely outperforms the alternatives on the East Coast.

Built for coastal wind

Interlocking metal panels are fastened to the deck along their full length rather than relying on adhesive tabs, which is why metal is a common choice on exposed Atlantic sites.

Sheds snow and ice

Smooth, low-friction panels let snow slide rather than accumulate, reducing the freeze-and-thaw cycling that works shingles loose over a Nova Scotia winter.

Sealed against driving rain

Concealed-fastener systems keep penetrations out of the water path, and flashing details at valleys, walls and penetrations are formed to direct water off the roof.

Holds its appearance

Factory-applied finishes are engineered to resist chalking and fading far longer than site-applied coatings, so the roof still looks intentional years after installation.

Recyclable material

Steel and aluminium roofing carry recycled content and are recyclable at end of life, rather than adding to landfill the way tear-off asphalt does.

Light on the structure

Metal weighs considerably less per square foot than asphalt or tile, which matters when re-roofing an older home without adding structural load.

Installation & service

A roof replacement that stays organised

Most of the stress in a roofing project comes from not knowing what happens next. We are specific about the schedule, the site and who you speak to.

Measured before it is quoted

We start from your actual roof outline and pitch, then confirm those measurements on site before any final quote.

One point of contact

The same person from first conversation to completion, so nothing is lost between the estimate, the schedule and the crew.

A tidy, protected site

Landscaping and walkways are protected before work starts, and the site is swept before the crew leaves.

Support after completion

If something needs attention afterwards, you contact us directly. We service what we install.

Materials

The systems we install

We fit three metal roofing systems. Which one suits your home depends on the roof's complexity, the look you want, and your budget.

Standing seam metal roof with concealed fasteners

Standing Seam

Concealed fasteners and raised vertical seams. The cleanest, most architectural profile, and the one most homeowners choose for a modern finish.

  • No exposed fasteners in the water path
  • Continuous vertical lines suit contemporary homes
  • Panels formed to the length of your roof planes
Metal shingle roofing with traditional coursing

Metal Shingles

Pressed metal panels that read like traditional shingle or slate coursing from the ground, with the performance of a metal system.

  • Familiar residential appearance
  • Works well on heritage and traditional homes
  • Interlocking courses for weather resistance
Ribbed exposed fastener metal roofing panels

Exposed Fastener

Ribbed panels fixed through the face. The most economical metal option, and a practical choice for simple roof shapes and outbuildings.

  • Best value entry into metal roofing
  • Efficient to install on straightforward roofs
  • Wide range of finishes available

Why homeowners choose us

Straight answers and accurate numbers

We would rather tell you something inconvenient early than surprise you halfway through the job.

Real measurements, not estimates of estimates

Your quote is based on your roof's actual outline, pitch and surface area — confirmed on site — rather than a per-square-foot average applied to a guess.

Itemised, written quotes

You see what is included and what is not before you decide. If something is excluded, it is stated rather than implied.

No pressure to sign

Our estimate arrives without a countdown timer attached. Take the time you need, and compare it against others.

Problems raised as they are found

If we open up the deck and find rot, you hear about it that day, with the cost implications, before we carry on.

We service what we install

You are not handed off to a third party after completion. Call us and you reach the people who did the work.

Finished properly at the edges

Flashing, trim and transitions are where roofs fail and where corners get cut. They get the same attention as the panels.

The process

From first estimate to finished roof

Eight stages, in the order they happen. You will know which one you are in at any point.

  1. 01

    Preliminary estimate online

Find your home on the map, outline the roof, and choose a system and pitch. You get an indicative range in minutes, with no phone call required.

  2. 02

    Site visit and measurement

We confirm the measurements in person, inspect the existing roof and decking, and note anything that affects the work — penetrations, ventilation, access.

  3. 03

    Written quote and material selection

You receive an itemised quote with the system, profile and colour confirmed, so you can see exactly what is included before committing to anything.

  4. 04

    Scheduling

We agree a start date and talk through what to expect: access, parking, noise, and roughly how long your roof should take.

  5. 05

    Removal and deck preparation

The existing roof is removed and the deck is inspected. Any compromised sheathing is identified and discussed with you before it is replaced.

  6. 06

    Underlayment and flashing

Underlayment, ice-and-water protection at vulnerable areas, and flashing details are installed before any panels go on. This is the layer that does the waterproofing.

  7. 07

    Panel installation

Panels are cut and fitted to your roof, with the fastening pattern and trim details appropriate to the system you selected.

  8. 08

    Final inspection and clean-up

We walk the finished roof, clear the site, and go through the completed work and warranty documents with you.

Warranty

Backed by a 40-year warranty

Our metal roofs carry a 40-year warranty. A roof is covered by two separate kinds of warranty, and it is worth understanding the difference before you compare quotes.

Manufacturer's warranty

Issued by the company that makes the panels, covering the material and its finish — things like perforation, and paint performance such as chalking and fading. Terms vary by manufacturer, system and finish.

We fit systems from established manufacturers, so the cover that applies to your roof depends on the system and finish you choose. The terms are confirmed for your specific project rather than generalised here.

Workmanship warranty

Ours, covering the installation itself — how the panels, flashing and details were fitted. A material warranty does not help if the roof was installed incorrectly, which is why this one matters just as much.

We are a registered and fully insured contractor with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, and we service what we install.

Full warranty documents are provided in writing on completion, and they — not this page — set out the terms that apply to your roof.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The questions homeowners ask us most often, answered directly.

How long does a metal roof installation take?

Most single-family homes are completed within a few days, depending on the size of the roof, the number of planes, and the weather. We give you a realistic window once we have measured the roof, and tell you promptly if anything changes.

Can metal roofing be installed over my existing shingles?

Sometimes, but we do not treat it as the default. Going over an existing roof hides the condition of the decking underneath. We recommend removal so the deck can be inspected and any problems dealt with before the new roof goes on.

Is a metal roof noisy when it rains?

This is the most common concern we hear, and it comes from experience with bare metal over an open structure, such as a barn or shed. A residential metal roof sits on solid decking with underlayment and insulation beneath it, so the difference from asphalt inside the house is far smaller than people expect.

Will a metal roof rust in a coastal environment?

Panels are supplied with protective metallic and paint coatings rather than being bare steel. Salt air is a genuine consideration on the coast, which is why the choice of substrate, coating and fasteners matters — we will talk through which system suits your specific location.

How does metal roofing compare in price to asphalt shingles?

Metal generally costs more up front than asphalt. The case for it rests on service life, weather performance and appearance over the long term rather than on the initial price. Our online tool gives you an indicative range so you can see the numbers early, before anyone visits.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Our focus is residential metal roofing for homeowners. If you have a commercial or multi-unit property, contact us and we will tell you honestly whether it is a good fit for us.

What areas do you serve?

We work throughout Halifax and the surrounding communities, including Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville, Cole Harbour and nearby areas. If you are just outside that range, get in touch and we will let you know.
